Preschoolers and Self Improvement

Posted on 08-25-2017

The earlier you can start teaching your preschooler about self-improvement, the better. At this young age, your little one is taking in a lot and constantly growing. Here are a few ways to encourage self improvement with your child and make it a part of their daily routine.

Choose a behavior to modify

First, pinpoint something that your child needs help with. Ask the teacher to send you weekly notes on how they are doing in school if you do not already get regular reports. You can use this to find specific actions that your child should attempt to achieve throughout the day.

Use incentives

Setting goals like this is a great way to make sure that your child is actually taking actions to make a difference in their behavior. Attach incentives to these goals as well, like giving them a star every time they complete a sharing-related action, and designate prizes to certain amounts of stars. At five stars, they get to pick an activity for the family to do together on the weekend, at ten stars they get to pick the book you read together after dinner, etc. Before you know it, your child will be seeking out ways to be a better student and friend, always excited to improve.
